The third edition of the SAFest Summer Academy Festival is starting Sunday 7 July in Udine, the new international festival organized by the Civic Academy of Dramatic Art “Nico Pepe” with the contemporary dance company Arearea. Between today and Thursday, around a hundred students and professors from Russia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Switzerland, Italy and Colombia will discuss in the Friulian capital the theme of this edition, “Corpo in Scena” [traslation : body on stage], which effectively summarizes the two forms of art that distinguish it, the theater and the dance, a wonderful interlacement of a lot of contemporary scene.
For almost a week with SAFest the city of Udine turns into a “world open-air stage for young talents”, a meeting place for masters from different theatrical realities. An exchange of experiences between theater schools and international academies that also involve the territory, through the meeting with the public on the occasion of moments of performance events and open Masterclasses.
And with a public event the festival opens Sunday 7 July in the churchyard of San Francesco on stage the preview of the Areadanza project “L.E.O Lex Extra Ordinary. In Golden Section ”signed by the choreography of Leonardo Diana in collaboration with Nicola Buttari, virtual set designer. On stage Leonardo Diana, Isabella Giustina, Ester Bonato, Diana Dardi, Irene Ferrara, Gloria Nardo, Daniele Palmeri, Anna Savanelli, Nicol Soravito, Sebastian Zamaro. A Versilia Danza production in collaboration with Compagnia Arearea. L.E.O. is an interdisciplinary project that aims to explore mathematical aspects of the Florentine genius Leonardo da Vinci and his experiments on machines, to develop new choreographic writings in relation to the use of new technologies. The subject at the center of the project is the body in the elaboration of an artistic process that moves towards a formal-aesthetic sense, characterized by a more mathematical and rational approach. The body, an expressive medium, aims to analyze a mechanical and linear concept in the search for formal perfection. The study of some aspects of the art of Leonardo Da Vinci, such as “L’Uomo Vitruviano”, the study of machines, the research on the “sezione aurea” – “golden section” are the starting point of the performance to trace both spatial and temporal boundaries, within which processing choreographic, video and musical writing.
SAFest – which offers participants daily master classes held by professors from Nico Pepe (Claudio de Maglio) from Arearea (Marta Bevilacqua, Roberto Cocconi Luca Zampar) and guest academies (Andrey Tolchine-Saint Petersburg, Alexander Iliev-Sofia and Andrea Valero-Bogotà ) – continues with performances open to the public Monday 8 July, with the Bulgarian students of Plovdiv University, Colombian students and students of Nico Pepe.
Note the presence at the festival of Daniel Bausch, member of the Iti Unesco Network board, vicedecan of the Swiss Scuola Teatro Dimitri di Verscio, actor of the Berliner Ensemble and of the Deutsche Oper, who also worked in Italy with Cesare Lievi: expected his participation which will bring an important contribution of knowledge about work that the Iti Unesco Network for Higher Education in the Performing Arts, of which Nico Pepe is a part, is carrying out at the Chinese headquarters in Shanghai.
In addition to the Municipality of Udine, the Nico Pepe Academy is supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Friuli Foundation and Adeb-Associazione Danze e Balletto Udine.
